Dirksen Screw Products is proud to deliver precision-machined and cold-formed components made from many different metals. We work with carbon, stainless, and alloy steel, copper, aluminum, and brass and can meet your application needs for strength, corrosion resistance, conductivity, or weight reduction. We can also source specialty and hard-to-find materials through our network of vetted suppliers. All materials are fully certified and traceable from raw stock through to finished part.

With nearly 90 years of experience in business we have the experience and capabilities to meet your requirements for medium- to high-volume precision machined parts. Our equipment can produce parts sized from ⅛ in. to 2-⅝ in. and we also provide in-house toolmaking services.

Steel, Stainless, Copper, Brass, and Aluminum

We work with high-quality materials used in critical and high-performance applications for the automotive, aerospace, electronics, and industrial equipment manufacturing industries.

Our core capabilities include cold-forming and machining. Cold forming allows for tighter profiles and higher mechanical strength without excessive material removal, while machining is an effective method for complex geometries and tight dimensional tolerance requirements.

  • Steel and alloy steel. Carbon and alloy steels are ideal for high-strength applications such as shafts, fasteners, and gear components. When cold-formed, steel gains yield strength and improved grain structure.
  • Stainless steel. Stainless grades such as 304 and 316 combine excellent corrosion resistance with good machinability, making them ideal for corrosion-sensitive and hygienic application, like medical devices, food equipment, and fluid handling systems. These materials are suitable for fine tolerances and surface finishes that meet both structural and sanitary requirements.
  • Copper and brass. Copper and brass have superior electrical and thermal conductivity, and they excel in electrical fittings, plumbing, and instrumentation. Brass in particular is highly compatible with both machining and cold forming for small, detailed components where both precision and aesthetic quality are called for.
  • Aluminum. Because it is lightweight and naturally corrosion-resistant, aluminum reduces component weight. It is also very machinable and is therefore a preferred material for high-volume component manufacturing where efficiency and accuracy are equally important.

Material Sourcing

Our sourcing process prioritizes traceability and reliability. Dirksen partners exclusively with certified suppliers that provide full material documentation, including mill certifications and batch traceability records. Every metal we procure, whether standard or specialty, is tracked through a detailed quality control system from receipt through final inspection of completed pieces.

For projects that require specialty or custom alloys, our team coordinates sourcing to meet application-specific standards such as MIL, ASTM, or ISO. This level of control ensures that each component meets not only mechanical and chemical specifications but also the documentation and audit requirements of regulated industries.

By maintaining end-to-end visibility over our supply chain, we eliminate uncertainty for engineering, procurement, and quality teams. You receive verified, high-performance materials that meet your project’s exacting standards every time.

Plating, Heat Treating, Grinding, and More

Dirksen also offers a complete suite of secondary operations that enhance durability, appearance, and performance. Cold-formed parts, in particular, benefit from post-form heat treatment and finishing since these steps stabilize dimensions, refine surface integrity, and enhance long-term performance.

These services help you streamline production and reduce the number of vendors you have to coordinate. Our capabilities include:

  • Heat treating: Hardening and annealing processes that optimize part strength, ductility, and wear resistance.
  • Plating: Nickel and zinc coatings to improve corrosion protection and surface performance.
  • Grinding and polishing: Achieve smooth, consistent finishes and precise dimensional accuracy for tight-tolerance assemblies.
  • Surface finishing and cleaning: Passivation and other finishing methods that improve corrosion resistance and visual appeal.

Some of these processes are performed in-house, while others are completed through our certified partner facilities, which operate under strict process controls. This integrated approach gives you the confidence that each component is ready for immediate use, and fully compliant with industry and application requirements.
